On a sunny Saturday morning on August 23, 2014, Tony Roma’s Malaysia brought cheers and much joy to the residents of Rumah Titian Kaseh (RTK), a home that provides shelter for single and abused mothers, orphans, OKUs and the elderly. The American casual-dining giant celebrated Hari Raya Aidilfitri with tantalizing American food, fun activities, prizes and gifts for everyone. Everyone present were entertained by a wonderful Nasyid performance by the young children of RTK.
Tony Roma’s contribution to RTK was officiated in a cheque handover ceremony that took place at RTK’s shelter in Titiwangsa. The event, part of Tony Roma’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, was attended by Revenue Valley’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Dickson Low and RTK’s founder Hajjah Sharifah binti Adlan.
Tony Roma’s Malaysia’s collaboration with RTK began in June, when they made a pledge to contribute part of their sales revenue to support RTK’s efforts. Throughout June 30 to August 17, guests at all Tony Roma’s Malaysia outlets who purchased the Beef 10 dish, RM5 was contributed to the cause, as well as guests’ contributions from the donation boxes in the outlets and suppliers too.
Funds collected from this CSR campaign will be used to provide food, clothing, education and basic care for the residents of the home. Besides the RM20,000 cash donation, the team at Tony Roma’s Malaysia donated everyday essentials worth up to RM6,000. They include food items, a commercial chiller and blender, rice cooker, stainless steel serving trays and two desktop computers for the children’s schoolwork and research.
“CSR is not just an add-on for business. It is our fundamental belief that we should be contributing in a really positive way to the communities of which we are a part. For us, it is just as important to give as it is to receive. Nowadays, many of us are constrained to our own domestic or personal affairs. But while we juggle the demands of work and life, let us not forget that there are those who have to fight for everyday needs and have few resources to cope with their conditions. Through our humble contribution here today, we hope to do our part in nurturing a better and more caring society in days to come,” said Dickson Low.
Meanwhile, Puan Hajjah Sharifah shared that the home is delighted to be chosen as a beneficiary. “It is always wonderful when established and successful organisations come forward to lend a helping hand. Especially in the spirit of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, the contribution from Tony Roma’s Malaysia is timely and we are truly grateful for their kindness and consideration.”
RTK was established in the year 1988 to provide shelter for single and abused mothers and orphans. Today, three shelters operate under the RTK banner. Two are located in the vicinity of Taman Tasik Titiwangsa and the last is in the vicinity of Jalan Duta in Kuala Lumpur. RTK’s mission includes providing basic care, vocational training and confidence-building activities for its residents.
